How to Use AI Agents for Recruiting (Full Guide)

Recruiting has always been a numbers game with a human touch. You need to find the right people, reach out to enough of them, and actually get them on the phone, all without spending your entire week buried in sourcing and follow-ups.
That's exactly where AI agents shine. Instead of manually prospecting candidates, writing outreach from scratch, and chasing every reply, you can hand the repetitive work off to AI and focus your time on what matters: the conversations with qualified candidates.
In this guide, I'll walk you through how to set this up using LeadLoft, step by step.
Step 1: Build a Playbook With the AI Prospector as the Trigger
Everything starts with a playbook. When you create your playbook in LeadLoft, the first thing you want to do is set the playbook's trigger to the AI Prospector.
This is what powers your candidate sourcing. The AI Prospector will go out and automatically prospect for you based on the criteria you care about, experience level, the types of companies they've worked for, their backgrounds, and so forth. Instead of spending hours scrolling through profiles, you define what a great candidate looks like, and the AI Prospector fills your pipeline with people who match.
For recruiting, this is a massive time-saver. Sourcing is usually the most tedious part of the job, and now it runs on autopilot.
Step 2: Use the AI Playbook Builder to Write Your Outreach
Once your trigger is set, the next step is to use the AI Playbook Builder to actually build out the playbook.
The AI Playbook Builder is optimized to write great copy, the kind that gets high response rates when you start running LinkedIn automation or email outreach to your prospects. It will draft the messages and structure the sequence for you.
One recommendation here: keep most of your copy simple and short. Candidates respond to messages that feel personal and get to the point, not walls of text. So once the AI Playbook Builder is done, give everything a quick once-over. Trim anything that feels long-winded, and make sure the tone matches how you'd actually talk to a candidate.
Step 3: Enable AI Agents in the Playbook Preview
Here's where the real magic happens. Within the playbook, when you're previewing it, enable AI Agents in the top right.
This is what allows AI Agents to automatically schedule calls once you receive a positive response. When a candidate replies with interest, the AI Agent takes over the conversation and works to get them booked on your calendar, no manual back-and-forth required.
A few settings to configure here:
Follow-ups: I'd recommend setting this to 10. That might sound like a lot, but if somebody's interested, I think it's okay to follow up 10 times. Interested candidates get busy, and persistence is often the difference between a booked call and a dead thread.
Goal: Leave the goal as schedule a call. That's the outcome you want from every positive reply.
Additional instructions: This one is really important for recruiting. Oftentimes, you don't want to waste your time talking to people who aren't actually a good fitm so be strict here. Ask the AI Agent to always qualify that the contact has the skill set you require. If they confirm it's true, the agent should try to schedule a call. If not, the agent should eject them from the playbook.
If you'd like, you can even ask multiple qualifying questions to ensure the person you're going to meet with is a great fit for the job you're recruiting for. Every qualifying question you add is one less unqualified call on your calendar.
The Payoff
Once this is set up, here's what your recruiting workflow looks like:
The AI Prospector sources candidates that match your criteria. The playbook runs outreach automation with copy built for high response rates using the AI Playbook Builder. You can even use LinkedIn Automation to scale candidate engagement and automate repetitive recruiting touchpoints. And when candidates reply with interest, AI Agents qualify them, follow up persistently, and book calls directly on your calendar.
Your only job? Show up to calls with candidates who have already been vetted for the exact skills you need.
That's the power of AI agents for recruiting, less time sourcing and chasing, more time hiring.
